Getting to Clonakilty

How to reach Clonakilty by train, bus, or car.

Rail

Clonakilty had a station on the West Cork Railway, opened in 1886 and built on McCurtain Hill, but the entire West Cork line closed in 1961 and was never reopened. There is no rail service to Clonakilty today. The nearest working rail station is Cork Kent Station in Cork city, roughly 50km away, from which onward travel to Clonakilty is by road (bus or car/taxi). The West Cork Model Railway Village on Inchydoney Road commemorates the closed line in miniature.
