About

The most popular hillwalk in Connemara, on the OPW national park at Letterfrack around 15km north of Clifden, roughly a twenty-minute drive. Marked looped trails climb Diamond Hill, with a lower loop and a steeper upper loop to the 442-metre summit, on boardwalk and stone path with wide views over the coast and the Twelve Bens. There is a visitor centre, and both the park and parking are free.

Highlights

  • The upper loop to the 442m Diamond Hill summit
  • Boardwalk and stone-path trails, well waymarked
  • Wide views over the Connemara coast and the Twelve Bens
  • A free OPW national park with a visitor centre

Tips

  • It is at Letterfrack, around a twenty-minute drive north of Clifden, not in the town itself.
  • Allow two and a half to three hours for the upper loop and wear proper footwear; the summit is exposed.
