About

Bantry town is both the start and finish point of the Sheep's Head Way, the 107 kilometre waymarked loop that runs the ridge and northern side of the Sheep's Head peninsula out to the lighthouse before returning along the southern side. The first stage out of Bantry, to Glanlough, is around 14 kilometres and gives a genuine taste of the peninsula's bog roads, stone walls and bay views without committing to the full multi-day route.

Tips

  • The full loop is graded strenuous; the Bantry to Glanlough stage alone is a realistic day walk for most fitness levels.
  • Mobile coverage is patchy on the ridge; tell someone your plan and carry a map or the GPX from thesheepsheadway.com.
