St Muredach's Cathedral

← All things to do

About

St Muredach's stands on the banks of the Moy and holds the Ballina skyline, a neo-Gothic cathedral begun in 1827 and built of local cut stone, named for the patron saint of the Diocese of Killala. The interior is plain but atmospheric, with fine stained glass, and the setting over the river is the thing: the spire reflected in the Moy is one of the town's signature views. It is a working cathedral, open to visitors outside services, and a quiet, free stop a few minutes from the centre.
