About

Clarke's has been smoking salmon on O'Rahilly Street since Jackie Clarke, the same Ballina man whose historical collection is now the town's museum, founded the business in 1945. Now run by the second and third generations, the smokery slow-smokes salmon over real oak shavings at the back of the shop, and the front has grown into a bright seafood delicatessen selling fresh fish and shellfish, Irish farmhouse cheeses, wines and speciality foods. A side of Clarke's oak-smoked salmon is the single most Ballina thing you can bring home, and the shop is the heart of the town's claim to be the Salmon Capital.
