Dead Centre Brewing is Athlone's own brewery and gastropub, a taproom and full kitchen on Custume Pier overlooking the Shannon, named for the town's midlands, dead-centre-of-Ireland identity. It brews its own beer on site and runs a proper restaurant alongside the taproom, with a full menu, a bottomless brunch option and takeaway service, plus brewery tours. It is a livelier, more casual counterpoint to the Left Bank's booking restaurants, a good spot for a pint of something brewed a few metres away and a plate of food without the formality of a fine-dining table. Open six days a week, closed Tuesdays.
