About
Wooded islands in the middle of the River Ness, a short walk upstream from the centre, joined to both banks and to each other by footbridges that the tourism body describes as Victorian. You can go in on one bank and come out on the other, on paths under tall pines and other mature trees, past carved benches and a Nessie sculpture made from a fallen tree. In summer you may see anglers fishing for salmon. After heavy rain the water runs fast. Wikipedia says the islands have been used for recreation since the 1840s. It is free and always open, and it is the middle section of our riverside loop.
