The city museum on Castle Wynd, just below the castle, run by High Life Highland. It has history galleries, art exhibitions, a photographic archive, interactive exhibits, a coffee shop and a gift shop, and an events programme; its collection includes a Pictish stone. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays all year and runs shorter hours in winter. On 11 October 2026 its page warned that the passenger lift was out of order and that there are steps at the entrance.
