About

The covered market between Academy Street and Union Street, almost opposite the station. Wikipedia says the original market was built in 1869 to 1870, burned on 23 June 1889 and reopened rebuilt on 8 September 1891, and the Academy Street entrance survives from the first building. The market says it has over 30 independent businesses and opens seven days a week from 08:00, though each business keeps its own hours. A Highland Council refurbishment turned the old market and fish hall into a food hall (council news, June 2023); Badgirl Bakery and the Mexican stall Ancho are among the traders the market names.
