The general market on Market Hill in the heart of the city, trading on the same site since well before the university existed, with stalls trading every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, 10am to 4pm, and a different mix of traders on Sundays. The mix runs from fresh produce, bread and street food to books, clothes, phone cases and tourist souvenirs, a genuinely working market rather than a curated craft fair, which is part of its appeal: it still serves the city's own daily shopping as much as its visitors.
