About
A volunteer heritage railway running from Lionheart station, at the far end of the Lionheart Enterprise Park on the south edge of town, to Greenrigg Halt, just over a mile down the old branch towards Alnmouth. The railway calls itself Northumberland's only standard-gauge heritage steam railway; it has run since 2013, and its aim is to reach Alnmouth again, still about a mile short. Trains are 1950s carriages behind steam or heritage diesel, with a miniature railway at Lionheart, and the return trip takes 30 to 45 minutes. It runs on set days only, mainly weekends from Easter to September and Wednesdays in the summer holidays, plus event days, so check the calendar. Parking at Lionheart is free; there is no parking at Greenrigg Halt.
