Kilcruttin Centre, Tullamore, Co. Offaly
O'Donohue's is a fourth-generation family bakery that has been making bread in Tullamore since 1 April 1989, when Cathal and Frances O'Donohue, from a baking family in Mayo, bought McGlinchey's bakery on William Street. It now works from a much larger bakery in the Kilcruttin Centre, making yeast and soda breads and the Penny Loaf range of small frozen soda breads for hotels, restaurants and caterers. It is a working bakery rather than a shop you can walk into, so the way to taste it is in the places it supplies; the Penny Loaf retail packs are not yet on general sale, according to the bakery.
