About

Slane Irish Whiskey is distilled in the converted stable block of Slane Castle, a working distillery that opened in 2017 on the estate and created, in the distillery's own words, with the whiskey-making expertise of the Brown family, of Brown-Forman, on the Conyngham family's land. It runs two booked tours. The signature Slane Distillery Tour and Tasting starts with a Slane Irish coffee, walks through the stills and the triple-casked method, and ends with a guided tasting of the blend, the Extra Sherry Wood release and a distillery-only batch strength bottling; it takes two hours and costs €40 a head. Slane Amplified is the longer one at two and a half hours and €60, with a deconstructed tasting of whiskies from seasoned, virgin oak and sherry casks before the blend and two exclusive bottlings. It is a separate business from the castle, so a distillery booking does not get you into the house.
