About

Eask Tower is a squat stone beacon on Carhoo Hill above the harbour, built in 1847 as famine-relief work, with a wooden pointer fixed to it that once guided boats into Dingle. The walk up is short but steep, around 2km from the trailhead through sheep meadows and a set of switchbacks, and the reward is the best single view of Dingle: the town, the harbour mouth, the whole of Dingle Bay and across to the Iveragh Peninsula. The landowner asks a small honesty-box fee at the start. Sturdy footwear and a dry-ish day make it far easier.

Highlights

  • An 1847 famine-relief beacon with its old wooden pointer
  • The best single view over Dingle, the harbour and the bay
  • A short but properly steep climb
  • Views across to the Iveragh Peninsula on a clear day

Tips

  • A small honesty-box fee is asked at the trailhead.
  • Steep underfoot; wear proper footwear and avoid it in low cloud.
  • Best in clear weather, late afternoon for the light over the bay.
