Frank Hederman's Belvelly Smokehouse, just outside the town near Belvelly bridge onto Great Island, is described as the oldest traditional smokehouse still working in Ireland. The salmon and seafood are hand-filleted and cold-smoked over beech in the old way, and the result turns up on good tables across the country and at the markets. There is a tasting room on site. The name to bring home from Cobh if you want one thing that says the place.
