Rockingham Remembered Tour and Tree Canopy Walk

← All things to do

About

This is the paid heritage trail at Lough Key and the part of the park that tells you what Rockingham was. It is a self-guided audio tour that starts underground, in two of the nineteenth-century servant tunnels that kept the staff out of sight of the house, climbs the Moylurg Tower, the concrete viewing tower put up in 1973 on the site of Rockingham House after the fire of 1957, and finishes on the Tree Canopy Walk, a 300-metre timber and steel walkway that rises nine metres above the woodland floor. The park describes it as the first canopy walk of its kind in Ireland. There is no time limit once you are in, so you can take it slowly. The walk and tunnels are wheelchair and buggy accessible, but the lift in the Moylurg Tower was out of service at the time of writing, so the viewing deck was stairs only. Dogs are not allowed on the tour.
