About

An Ríoga is the old Royal Hotel on Bridge Street, a coaching inn built in 1782 that closed in 2012 after 230 years and was bought by Roscommon County Council and reopened in 2023 as an enterprise and cultural centre. The New Art Gallery on the ground floor shows and sells locally made art, craft and design, and works as a workshop space for local artists as well as a shop. It is worth a look for the building alone: Yeats, Maud Gonne and Maureen O'Sullivan all stayed in the hotel.
