About
The on-island end of the Great Western Greenway, the long-distance walking and cycling route built on the old Westport to Achill railway line, closed in 1937. A 2023 extension moved the Achill end of the greenway from Achill Sound to Cashel, adding a genuine 5km of flat, paved off-road path on the island itself, distinct from the much longer mainland section back to Westport.

- →Bike hire is based in Westport; arrange it there if cycling the full mainland route as well.
