Hardy, the fishing-tackle maker, started in Alnwick: the company's own history says William Hardy set up as a gunsmith here in 1872, the firm moved into premises on Bondgate in 1887, and in 1891 launched the Perfect, the fly reel that made its name. The company still describes itself as based in Alnwick. On Bondgate Within, just inside the Bondgate Tower, the Hardy store has a small fishing museum, listed on the 2025 Alnwick heritage trail. Opening hours are not published on the company site, so check before you go.
