About

Whiskey came back to Tullamore in 2014, when William Grant and Sons opened a working distillery at Clonminch, beside the bypass about two kilometres south of the Square. The tour is a 105-minute guided walk through the working site: an Irish coffee to start, the still house, a blending lab, a tasting straight from the cask in a warehouse snug, and a tasting of three Tullamore D.E.W. expressions at the end. You can make and bottle your own blend for an extra charge. It is strictly over-18s, and tours are capped at eight people, so book ahead rather than turning up. The old distillery in the town centre closed in 1954 and the former heritage centre on Bury Quay closed in 2020; Clonminch is where the whiskey is made and shown now. The visitor centre shop sells the range, clothing and gifts.
