The café inside the castle walls, in the west wing beside the gallery, and the closest most visitors get to the house itself. It serves tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes made by the castle chef. You reach it through the gardens, so normal garden admission applies. In June, July and August it also does a picnic for two on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, made in the castle kitchen with salads from the gardens; order it at least 48 hours ahead by phone or email. It closes with the gardens at the end of the season, which in 2026 is 25 October.
