A vast Victorian coastal artillery fort cut into the headland at the mouth of Cork Harbour, near Crosshaven. Restored and run with the help of local volunteers, it is a maze of tunnels, gun batteries, ramparts and underground magazines with dramatic views across to Fort Carlisle and out to sea. One of the best-preserved forts of its kind anywhere, and a proper afternoon out.
