Doonamo Point (Dún na mBó)

About

Doonamo Point, Dún na mBó in Irish, is one of the most spectacular spots on the Mullet and a Wild Atlantic Way discovery point. The headland holds a promontory fort built around an even earlier ring fort that still stands inside it, and beside it is one of Ireland's great blowholes, where the sea forces up through the rock. From the cliffs you look out at the Inishkea Islands and the open Atlantic. A sculpture from the Tír Sáile North Mayo Sculpture Trail stands nearby. It is unfenced cliff-edge ground, so mind your footing, especially in wind.
